Migration and Co-Existence:  With the introduction of support for Unified Communications (UC) or Collaboration applications running on Unified Computing Systems (UCS), Enterprise are realizing the financial, operational and technical benefits of this architecture.  Enterprises that are planning or adopting this architecture will need to plan and develop a migration and co-existence strategy for some or all of the Collaboration platforms over to Unified Computing Systems (UCS).  As such, a system level migration strategy will be required to be defined and executed upon. Join Brandon Ta, Cisco Technology Solutions Architect  as he has an interactive discussion with you on the technical requirement for this supported architecture as well as migration tasks for the migration of a HP, IBM or MCS platforms onto a Unified Computing Systems (UCS) environment.

Brandon will also provide a migration strategy and best practices to minimize downtime and ensure a successful migration.  System level and operational impacts and caveats will be considered to ensure that the migration to a Unified Computing Systems (UCS) infrastructure will not impact any server or client side features or functionalities.

Key takeaways from this workshop:

  • Technical requirements for UC on UCS
  • Licensing requirements and the process to migrate UC license  onto UCS
  • Technical migration tasks from server platforms to UCS
  • Migration strategies
  • System level considerations and impacts
  • Operational impacts with changes in the process and tools
    Best practices

Designing Unified Communications Manager (UCM) Solutions on Unified Computing Systems (UCS):  Join Joe Kochuba, Systems Engineer, Cisco Systems as he walks you through the design and deployment process of enabling Cisco's new or existing Unified Communications Solution to run on Unified Computing Systems (UCS) Blade Server Platform in a VMWare based virtualized environment.

This session will provide a systems or solution level overview of various virtualized UC products on UCS blade server platform and topic include:

  • Overview of UCS systems
  • UCS hardware building blocks
  • Implementing Unified Communications on UCS
  • Design best practices with this type of deployment

You will also leave with an understanding of what will go into the sizing, the high availability, and fault tolerant mechanism provided by the various UC applications and the solution as a whole and towards the end will briefly touch upon a case study to size the solutions as per best practices.
