Overview of Application Bake-Off Competition
At the 2007 Annual Conference, CIPTUG hosted the Application Bake-Off Competition where end users and vendors demoed their recently released, or not yet released applications that solve unique, complex business problems across a variety of vertical markets. The Bake-Off provided an opportunity for attendees to give direct, valuable feedback to developers to drive innovative application development for Unified Communications, and to provide an avenue for communicating between customers and developers.
Purpose of Application Bake-Off was for Attendees to
  • Participate in hands-on live demos with a Unified Communications focus with Cisco Partners and end user customers
  • Learn how other customers have developed and implemented applications enabling them to meet business goals, and gain a competitive advantage
  • Talk to other users, Cisco Partners and engineers to learn what applications can be developed for their converged network
  • Learn more about return on investment for Unified Communications solutions and applications
  • Drive innovative application development for Unified Communications

911 Enable

Description of Application
911 Enable specializes in E9-1-1 Call Routing and Location Information Management for organizations utilizing Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM). 911 Enable has developed a world class emergency services network with enhanced 9-1-1 coverage available to over 4,500 PSAPs in the U.S. When 9-1-1 is dialed, 911 Enable handles all aspects of call routing and ensures that the location and callback number are displayed at the appropriate PSAP. 911 Enable also provides its customers with location reporting tools which support employee mobility and advanced CUCM capabilities.
  Business Problem Solved
911 Enable has developed a unique location management and E9-1-1 call routing solution for organizations using the Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM). The solution addresses Cisco’s emphasis on technologies which improve workplace efficiency and employee mobility. Features of the Cisco Unified Call Manager allow employees to access the company IP-PBX remotely, move their phones with greater ease on the network, and make use of devices such as softphones and IP phones. 911 Enable’s solution ensures that these features can be supported by a reliable E9-1-1 service in times of crisis.

Description of Application
VERT- The Voice Engineering Reporting Tool for H.323 and Call Manager trunk traffic analysis and reporting with Gatekeeper integration.

Business Problem Solved
Trunk routing and traffic engineering is critical to VoIP integrations in large enterprises. This tool gathers information from all backbone sources of H.323 trunks and CM trunk routing, in a consolidated display to be used for traffic analysis and engineering.

Description of Application
Brandeis Wake Up Call application is a full featured automated wake up call system. Users of the system can choose a one time or recurring wake up call alarm to ring their phone and play a selection of wake up call messages. This system is tailored around our academic calendar and respects holidays and class schedules.

Business Problem Solved
Our on campus student population live a rigorous schedule and need to be sure they wake up on time every day even when that time varies throughout the week. A mere alarm clock cannot fulfill this job and roommates cannot always be counted on for this task. When faced with the manual task of calling students every day to wake them up the costs of hiring wake up call specialists was out of the question. This application was designed and written by our students and hosted by the Brandeis telecom department.

Description of Application
The new Voice Monitor module allows you to take control of your mission critical applications through proactive monitoring and alerting. Included only in ClarusIPC® Plus+, Voice Monitor takes an end user perspective and provides actionable, near-real time insight into exactly what's happening within your IPT environment. By accessing critical information from CUCM, Voice Monitor provides business intelligence, providing a unique ability to report in near-real time, further reducing unauthorized IP Telephony calls and toll fraud. In addition, Voice Monitor helps enforce voice quality standards by utilizing the most accurate (K-factor) MOS metrics.

Business Problem Solved
Allows users to efficiently monitor voice quality, call volume, service availability, and security conditions through the use of a sophisticated rules and policy engine. The application is designed to monitor CDR’s and CMR’s using a rules-based template of custom-defined policies to set alerts and monitor system availability.

IPCC Real-Time Statistics Web Application is used by agents to see how their queues are performing and to see the state of each of their co-agents.

Business Problem Solved
In a small contact center, it isn't possible for a supervisor to be always monitoring queues. This application lets agents self monitor their queues and fellow agents.

Description of Application
The Polycom Video Control Application allows customers to use a Cisco 7970 IP phone to control video calls on Polycom Personal and Group video solutions for Cisco CallManager. The touch screen interface on the 7970 replaces the traditional video conferencing remote control and allows the experience to be easily integrated with other Cisco UC applications and tools.

Business Problem Solved
The Video Control Application solves two problems: 1. It makes using a video appliance much easier since the controls are integrated with the Cisco IP phone. 2. It allows for rich video telephony integration with powerful vertical applications. For example, in Healthcare a doctor can push one button on their Cisco IP phone and their video appliance will automatically connect them with a Rusian speaking medical specialist to provide language translation services for a critically injured patient. In finance, a broker can read stock prices and company data on their phone and press a button to automatically connected via video to that company’s spokesperson or CFO to discuss the information.

SA-Announce - IP Telephony Audio and Text Paging Solution for Cisco Communications Manager.

SA-Announce provides a single source for all paging requirements regardless of the destination type. The software integrates traditional TDM paging systems, IP Speakers, IP Phones, and various other TDM devices in to a single addressable page group. SA-Announce delivers a wide variety of paging services including, live audio, store and forward audio, pre-recorded emergency audio, Push-to-Talk audio services, AD-Hoc live audio and text messages to XML enabled IP.

Description of Application
The CARIN IP call recording software application is the first Rich Media recording solution to provide both video and voice recording on the Cisco IP Telephony platform.  Video communication is captured, stored and then can be played back the same way as voice calls, by using CARIN's intuitive web interface. The CARIN Video Player is able to display both parties during playback, side by side, and utilizes the embedded windows media player extensions within Internet Explorer.


Business Problem Solved
Video recording is a natural extension of the standard voice recording that many companies have come to depend on, as companies move from voice only conversations to video conversations, they would like to have the same capability to record those interactions just as easily as well.  Some specific business problems that the CARIN Video recording solves are:

World Wide Technology would like to introduce a solution for the Healthcare Industry we call "Unified Communications at the Point of Care".

It is made up of solution integration of Cisco IP Personal Communicator for voice, video, chat and Cisco security applications and wireless infrastructure in the format of a an infectious controlled C5 Medical Clinical Assistant Tablet. This solution for mobile clinical user bundles mobility, voice, presence, active asset tracking capabilities into a single device and has been developed for a medical environment with camera, video, and wireless capabilities
